Working on the project 'Paraiso Ocupado' during Artist-in-Residence at Capacete, Rio de Janeiro, BR, Fonds BKVB, Amsterdam, NL. From 7th of March 2010 till the 7th of July 2010 we will develop a project during our stay in the artists-in-residence program of Capacete in Rio de Janeiro. The residency is funded by the Fonds BKVB (The Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture, known in the Netherlands as Fonds BKVB). The FBKVB offers a temporary artists-in-residence place. The aim is to to enable artists to develop and reflect upon their work in a different environment and culture. Such a residency also generates opportunities for making or extending international contacts and for exploring and/or developing a new market. Capacete provides a living space in the district of Gloria, which is located in the middle of the city. They expect artists to engage with the city and its inhabitants, instead of working solely in a studio/atelier.

“Capacete’s activities is part of a long term interdisciplinary presence in Rio de Janeiro, which aims to research and document aesthetic, social and political processes in Brazil. The historic, urban, topographic, environmental and social context of Rio de Janeiro is an important laboratory that (re)actualises Brazilian complexities. Rio de Janeiro is a strategic tool to identify, articulate and give visibility to these processes, reaching very heterogeneous audiences.”
