Sound: Elke Uitentuis, Leonard Abbink, Jochum Vrijland
Hello hero was an installation consisting of two big sculptures around a container and sound. Both of these sculptures together were as big as the indoor-size of the container. The smallest sculpture was standing inside the container. The visitor could walk around it. At the back of the sculpture there was a speaker that produced the sound of a dramatic song. This song told a story about a broken relationship, describing mixed feelings. On one hand a challenge to make a new start, on the other hand the lonely feeling of lost and emptiness.
The biggest sculpture was placed with one side on the roof and with one side on the ground. There were two small speakers built in this piece at the side where the sculpture touched the ground. These speakers were producing the sound of a poem, describing the process of dividing shared things. The texts on both sculptures were also dealing with the ending of a relationship and its consequences.
The installation was made for a container project on a theaterfestival. There were six containers used by different artists (mostly theatergroups). The theme of the festival was ‘Heroes’. We defined a hero as someone who had the courage to change patterns, even though it’s difficult.
