VOOR DE DIEREN VOOR DE MENSEN

‘Voor de dieren, voor de mensen’ (For the animals, for the people) was a cooking program created during the ‘Basis’, a residence project organized by W. Osterholt and M. Dijkman in Artis, Den Bosch. I made the video in cooperation with Mathijs Lieshout.

In the performances we used food as a medium. The residence project brought up questions considering the relation between working in public space and the documentation of the projects. We decided to present the performances we did in public space within the format of a cooking program. We showed the video during the final presentation in the exhibition space.

The performances I presented in ‘Voor de dieren, voor de mensen’ where ‘ Lollipop’ and ‘My deer’. In the last performance I provided home made pies for animals (deer), filled with their favorite ingredients. In the cooking program there was an explanation of the recepies of the lollis and the pies. Mathijs Lieshout also presented two performances within the cooking program considering sugar decorations in public space.

‘Lollipop’ was a performance at the market in Den Bosch. I gave away big colorful lollis for free. These lollis were made of melted candies. My costume was made of melted plastic bags that I collected in the city centre. From a distance my colorful appearance attracted people. When people came closer they saw that my products were made out of garbage produced by the consumption mania. Still a lot of people wanted to taste and even buy the lollis: Older people were interested because of curiosity, children because they really liked them. After half an hour all my lollis were ‘sold out’.
