In Sangeorgiu de Mures we realized an intervention that emphasized the contrast between the booming foreign supermarkets and possible disappearance of the traditional local food production.
We wanted to promote the local food production as if it was supported by the ‘Selgros’ (the newly build supermarket within the village). We made a stand in ‘Selgros-style’, using the typography and the colors of their logo. We displayed local homemade food and invited people to taste their own unique products.
Most of the people in Romania are very ambitious and eager to improve the economic situation in their country. A lot of the people we have met were proud and happy with the big foreign supermarket in their village; it means jobs and cheap food. Seen from our perspective it’s easy to criticize this process of globalization but we still believe it’s very essential to show the changing reality. Taken into consideration both of the different perspectives we initiated ‘Sell and Cash’. Our suggestion was to combine the two worlds.
