SEGMENT XV, 'BASIS'

In this project we invited 20 artist to participate in this residence program. We put an advertisement in a magazine and asked participants to stay with us in ‘Artis’ (the exhibition space)for a period of five weeks. We asked artist to come with an open mind (no ideas on forehand) and use the city of Den Bosch as their working area. Artis functioned as an indoorcamping where artist could stay over for the period of five weeks. We also prepared a meetingroom, a documentation space and some working facilities for the preparations for the interventions in Den Bosch.

For us it was important to think about issues like: the position of an art institute, the position of art in general, the influence and effect of art, art in public space and the relation with the public. On Sunday there were discussions about these subjects. It was an interesting project because as a visitor and participant you were able to see and follow all the different attitudes and workingmethods of all the participants. After five weeks we organized a final documentation exhibition.
